The way that we watch television is changing. Viewers no longer want to be chained to the TV in their living room, they want to be able to access their favorite shows wherever they are via mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. The good news is that a growing number of TV channels and providers are now offering Apps that can help viewers to do exactly that.
These Apps have been developed as a direct response to so called cord cutters who are choosing streaming Apps over a cable TV subscription. This movement has given TV providers cause for concern, but the latest figures suggest that it is not as big a problem as was initially feared.
In fact, provider Apps are growing in popularity with as many as 21% of households using them and the majority of people using streaming services like Netflix and Hulu are doing so in addition to rather than instead of a TV subscription. With all of that in mind, lets take a brief look at some of the most popular Apps.
The HBO Go app is widely considered to be one of the best cable TV apps around at the moment. This is largely down to the fact that the channel is home to some of the most popular shows of the moment such as Game of Thrones and True Detective. The app allows subscribers to watch these shows on the move.
More recently, HBO Now was launched which is a stand alone App that non-subscribers can use to access HBO content. This has been launched in a bid to rival Netflix and other streaming services.

Comcast’s App offering is also very popular and it has some unique features. Aside from allowing subscribers the opportunity to watch TV and movies on the move, they can also download content to their device to watch off-line at a later date. This is a fantastic feature for anyone who is traveling and is not sure about WiFi access during the journey.
One TV provider which has been praised for their Apps is DirecTV who offer a selection of different apps to allow their subscribers to access content on the move. As well as offering a selection of platform specific Apps for phones, tablets and even smart watches, the provider also offers some themed versions.
These include a kids only version which allows parents the peace of mind that the little ones can only access age appropriate content and also an NFL App which not only allows subscribers to watch the games, but also to check stats and manage their fantasy team!
